      MAYOR SIGNS SYNTHETIC DRUG BAN
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Mayor Stephanie A. Miner today signed an ordinance banning the synthetic drugs known as “bath salts.” This ordinance, passed by the Common Council on Wednesday, makes the sale and possession of these substances a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year imprisonment and a fine of up to one thousand dollars.
In signing this ordinance Friday afternoon, Mayor Miner declared this was the beginning of a long process to address this issue. “Today is an important first step in taking synthetic drugs off our streets,” she said “I look forward to working with our partners on the state level on a ban effort to make our law enforcement efforts as effective as possible.”
