  • Someone's having a birthday!  That's right... in 2017, the City of Syracuse Department of Parks, Recreation, and Youth Programs turns 100!!!  We're having a year-long celebration, and you're all invited!

    City Parks CENTENNIAL CHALLENGE!  The Centennial Challenge is about getting outside with friends and family and exploring your City Parks in 2017, while having FUN, and gaining lots of healthful physical activity!  Start the Challenge at any point during the year, and keep track of your City Parks adventures on the handy Centennial Challenge Scorecard.  Challenge yourself to log 100 activities in the Parks over the course of the year!  For ideas on how your Syracuse Parks can be part of a healthy lifestyle, see below!

    Events

    • March 11th, 2017 Noon - St Patricks Day Parade - The annual St Patricks Day parade makes its way through downtown Syracuse, along Salina Street!  Don't miss the Parks Department's special float, commemorating our 100th Birthday!
    •  May 18, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. – Syracuse Parks – 100 Years of Fun and More to Come -- Members of various parks associations and parks staff will be part of the Strathmore Speakers Series to highlight some of the city parks – their histories and plans for the future. The event will be held in the Onondaga Park Firebarn, 500 Summit Ave., and it is free and open to the public.
    • July 12, 2017 at 12 noon – As part of the Wednesday Walks, there will be a historical downtown walking tour, starting at Clinton Square, with stops to Hanover Square and Fayette Firefighters Memorial Park, where Parks staff will speak on some of the historical highlights of these parks and how they provided backdrops for some of the city’s biggest events. The event is free and open to the public. 
    • November 24, 2017  6:30pm - Home for the Holidays in Clinton Square - Come join us for the annual  holiday tree lighting ceremony in Downtown Syracuse!  Festivities will begin at 6:30pm with entertainment by the Blacklights,  and a special arrival by Santa and Mrs. Claus!  The program culminates with a countdown to the lighting of our magnificent tree!  Also, enjoy outdoor ice skating on Clinton Square both before and after the festivities (click here for ice rink details). 
      • Following the tree lighting, there will be a Holiday Open House at City Hall with Mayor Stephanie Miner!  Be sure to stop by with the family!  Musical entertainment at City Hall provided by the Syracuse Parks All Star Band!
    • December 8, 9, 15, 16 (Friday and Saturday evenings).  6:00pm - Holiday Hayrides at Burnet Park - Take a free horse-drawn wagon ride through Burnet Park on Syracuse's West Side, which has been decorated and lighted for the holidays!  Kids can visit with Santa, and there are free holiday treats for all!  6:00pm - 8:45pm
